Votator II Blade Selection:
Blade selection is based on many factors including compatibility with the heat exchanger tube material, product fluid characteristics, processing temperatures, and cost. Metal blades provide the best scraping properties, which means theoretically better heat transfer.
However, metal blades are usually the most expensive, must run on a hard chrome surface and must be properly sharpened to avoid damaging the heat transfer tube. Today, with the development of new high temperature and FDA compliant plastic materials, there are alternatives to metal blades. The blade options below provides a wide range of our most popular blades. Many other options are also available.

Theory of Operation
Votator II Scraped Surface Heat Exchangers high efficiency and productivity results from a simple concept, heat or cool continuously moving product by providing a large heat transfer surface for a small amount of product in a confined space.
Inside every Votator II, a mutator shaft rotates within a tube. The product passes through an annulus formed by the shaft and heat transfer tube (light yellow). Heating or cooling medium flows in a jacket (orange). The unit is insulated (pink) to minimize energy loss and protect personnel. A stainless steel cover protects the insulation.
In operation, the rotating shaft has blades which continuously scrape product film from the heat transfer tube wall, thereby enhancing heat transfer, and agitating the product to produce a homogenous mixture.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Votator II is ideal for heating, cooling, crystallizing, or gelling viscous, sticky, or shear-sensitive products. Common applications include deboned meats, pet food products, sauces, creams, peanut butter, shortenings, confections, lotions, and pharmaceutical gels.
The Votator I has been obsolete for decades, and parts and service support are increasingly limited. Williams-Carver can still assist with maintaining legacy units, but we recommend discussing our Trade-In / Trade-Up Program, which helps customers migrate to the more serviceable Votator II platform.
Replacement depends on the product, duty cycle, and operating conditions. However, the Votator II is designed for quicker, simpler blade changes and easier access to internal components. Williams-Carver can help evaluate your duty cycle and recommend maintenance intervals to optimize performance and reduce downtime. Williams-Carver can also provide onsite service and inspections of these units.
New Votator II units have lead times that remain impressively short compared to typical industry expectations. In addition to strong factory support, Williams-Carver maintains an extensive in-house inventory of new tubes, shafts, heads, bearings, blades, and wear components at our Kansas City facility. Most stocked items can ship the same day, ensuring your system remains reliable and downtime stays minimal.
